Eco-Friendly windows
When thinking about new windows, why shouldn’t you go green?

There are a lot of different window options you can choose for your Frederick home. From the sleek vinyl window frames to the casement style windows, there are always decisions to be made then choosing new windows. But what do you look for when choosing eco-friendly and energy-efficient windows? Well, there are some things you should consider when shopping these types of windows. Read on to find out what they are.

Glass

The glass may seem like one of the most obvious choices for windows but it is often something people overlook when choosing windows. People tend to concentrate on the frame and shape of the window without focusing on the glass. But it is one of the most important aspects of your windows. Did you know that glass is actually made from melted sand? So it is already eco-friendly and sustainable. When choosing an energy-efficient window, you can opt for single, double, or triple-paned glass. Double-paned glass is pretty standard when it comes to windows and does a good job of regulating the sunlight in your home. Regulating the light will allow your home to stay at the perfect temperature and keep heating and cooling costs low. If you want even more sunlight regulation, you should consider triple-paned glass.

Gases

If you want something more than just an extra layer of glass, you may want to consider the gas injections. Manufacturers give their windows more insulation by injecting inert gas or air between the panes of glass. ENERGY STAR windows are commonly insulated with argon or krypton gas. Since argon needs more space to work with, it is usually injected into double-paned glass. Krypton is usually injected into triple-paned glass. Both of these gases are harmless but will add a bit of money onto your window costs for the injections.
